How to Pair Wine and Cigars – Beginner TIPS and BASICS [2018]

Wine and cigars are one of the trickiest of pairings as many wines maintain a delicate balance between flavor, body and complexity that may be seriously upended by a cigar.

Over the years a stigma has developed about pairing wines with cigars and the effects it has on your ability to taste the finer nuances in the wine. While it may be true that the palate’s ability to discern distinct tastes might be dulled, it is undeniable that wine and cigars are incredibly gratifying pairing partners that can deliver endless joy with every sip and every puff.

Something to consider is that big bodied Red wines typically pair better with richer smokes, while most White wines will be best suited as companions to cigars of lighter structure. There are no rules here, however, so it just comes down to whatever you enjoy! So let’s pop those corks, spark up those cigars and let the good times commence!

WINE – Don Miguel Gascon Malbec 2016:
Opens with intense aromas of blackberry, plum and a hint of mocha. Dark fruit flavors intertwine with notes of spice, licorice and chocolate to create a magnificent, full-bodied Malbec. Round tannins and a plush mouthfeel lead the way to a long, velvety finish.

CIGAR – Gran Habano 3 Siglos:
Gran Habano’s 3 Siglos blend is gorgeous….its cedary pre-light aroma and its flawless wrapper are mesmerizing. But wait until you toast the foot: layers of rich, smooth flavors coat the palate while dashes of pepper finish each puff. A medium to full-bodied, 92-rated gem of a smoke.
